The British & Irish Lions are coming!

The Christchurch Fanzone is being set up in the Innovation Precinct on Poplar St, between Lichfield and Tuam streets, so people can come together and enjoy the excitement of the DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2017 in Christchurch.

Open from 5pm until 10pm, the Fanzone will feature live entertainment, face-painting and other activities for the children, food vendors, and of course, a giant screen on which to watch the game.

“There’s always an electric atmosphere when the British & Irish Lions tour New Zealand and we want to make sure Christchurch people get to experience that,’’ says Canterbury Development Corporation Major Events Manager Richard Attwood.

“The Fanzone is a place where people will be able to come together with their friends and family and enjoy the atmosphere and some pre-game entertainment.’’

Space within the Fanzone will be limited so people will need to get there early to secure the best spots for viewing the big screen when the game starts at 7.30pm.

No deck chairs or other large items will be allowed into the Fanzone.

Alcohol will also not be allowed in but surrounding hospitality outlets will be open for those wanting to have drink before or after the game.

“It is likely to be at least 12 years before the Crusaders get the chance to play the British and Irish Lions again so we’re hoping people will make the most of the occasion and come out and show their support for the teams,’’ Mr Attwood says.

The Fanzone will also be set up for the British & Irish Lions test matches against the All Blacks on Saturday, June 24, Saturday, July 1 and Saturday, July 8.
